what are mala beads?

Dating back to the 10th century, mala beads are a strand of 108 beads used as a tool during mantra meditations. They are nourished by the roots of ancient traditions and inspire spiritually-oriented people who are guided by intuition, self-healing powers, and the awakening of the heart + spirit.

You don't have to be religious or have a spiritual practice to have a mala. Some of us are simply finding ways to seek spirit in our lives. Your mala can serve as a reminder for the qualities you envision yourself having and the positive changes you wish to manifest in your life.

At Malas In Bloom, we use sacred materials that match the intention of the mala to deepen your practice. Whether you're looking to cultivate more authenticity, increase happiness, improve relationships, or reduce stress, all of these things are accessible to you through the practice of japa mala meditation.

Why 108?

We believe that the human heart is the source of the infinite, and our connection with the Divine. From the heart, there are 108 main nadis (channels) that carry prana (life force energy). These lines of energy intersect at the heart. It is said that after reciting a mantra or affirmation 108 times, you have purified your body, mind and spirit of negative or β€˜stuck’ energy, which paves the way to freedom and self-realization, as well as connection to Higher Source. Counting each of the 108 beads on your mala while reciting a mantra is done with sincerity, devotion, feeling, and full attention.

meditation + More

Mala beads are powerful and can be used in a variety of ways, from supporting physical health to helping you manifest dreams, goals and intentions. Use your mala during your meditation practice to keep you focused by counting each bead individually 108 times.  As you meditate with your mala, use a mantra or affirmation (a word, sound, or phrase repeated) to aid in your concentration. It can be as simple as the word 'love,' something you are thankful for, or a phrase such as 'om shanti, shanti, shanti' which represents all encompassing peace. When you have counted all 108 beads and recited your mantra 108 times, touch the guru bead and allow yourself to be still and self-reflect.

Simply wearing a mala as a necklace or bracelet can change your life.  We use high-vibrational healing crystals and gemstones that carry special and specific energetic properties that can help you attract and repel certain feelings, thoughts and emotions.
